Disney would have the people who voiced the characters act out their roles in full costume on stage for the animators. Maleficent was their first semi-sultry evil lady, and probably the source of my attraction to bitchy, intimidating women. Source Wikipedia

An interesting redesign of our currency.

$1 – The first African American president $5 – The five biggest native American tribes $10 – The bill of rights, the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution $20 – 20th Century America $50 – The 50 States of America $100 – The first 100 days of President Franklin Roosevelt.

While it’s nice to expand our currency to people and things that aren’t dead white men I’m not enthusiastic (I actually really hate it) about the fascination with Helvetica and minimalism when re/designing things. But I would love it if Obama made it on money in my lifetime, imagine the insane complaints. Click thru for more info on the design via kottke

Blagojevich guilty on count 24, lying to FBI..the same thing Martha Stewart went to jail for. What a fucking headache. I’ll now say my mother was one of the jurors, she’s the pretty lady on the end in the brown tank. Deliberation was a headache, there was crying, endless repetition. It wasn’t easy and the juror count will show how tough it’s been for them all over the past two weeks. She’ll be happy it’s over, I’m happy it’s over because this trial hijacked my life, having to deal with inconveniently timed family stuff my mother couldn’t because of jury duty. Now we have to deal with the media onslaught, I’m going to suggest she go on vacation.

My friend Imin entered a contest to woodcut a Jack Daniels barrel. This is the final product! Click thru for the Flickr stream that shows the progression, that barrel started out unsexy.

“Laurie Simmons stages photographs and films with paper dolls, finger puppets, ventriloquist dummies, and costumed dancers as ‘living objects’, animating a dollhouse world suffused with nostalgia and colored by an adult’s memories, longings, and regrets. Her work blends psychological, political and conceptual approaches to art making, transforming photography’s propensity to objectify people, especially women, into a sustained critique of the medium.”

There’s a Flickr set of portraits of people who have sat across from Marina Abramović during her installation at the MoMA. You’ll see several celebrities in the mix.
